Search sites can filter out most adult-oriented content. All search sites have a technology called SafeSearch. At Googles main page, click Preferences. Under SafeSearch Filtering, click "Use strict filtering." Click Save Preferences. At MSN Search, click Settings. Under SafeSearch, select "Strict- Filter sexually explicit text and image results." Select Save.

At Yahoo's preference page (search.yahoo.com/preferences), select edit next to SafeSearch. Then select next to "Filter out adult Web, video and image search results - SafeSearch On. "click Save.

Filter Programs can prevent loading cookies or a virus that can attack or obtain your accounting or financial data.

  • Safe Eyes $50 offers minimal interference in searches. It filters e-mail and instant messaging.
  • CyberPatrol $40 Windows has excellent filters and logs.
  • iShield $25 Windows, analyzes pictures and text for porn. It will block pages, images or display a warning.

Chat rooms, instant messaging and peer-to-peer programs need limit set because they can cause problems.
